Dairy foods, including milk, cheese and yoghurt belong to one of the five food groups recommended everyday in the Australian Dietary Guidelines.
Recommendations vary, depending on your age and gender.
Adults aged 19-50 years are recommended to consume 2.5 serves of milk, cheese, yoghurt and/or alternatives each day.
Older adults (particularly women) require additional serves to help maintain muscle mass and bone strength.
A serve of milk is 250mL (1 cup). This can include any type of milk such regular or reduced-fat varieties, UHT long life, evaporated or powdered milk.
A serve of cheese is 40g (or two slices) of hard cheese, or half a cup of ricotta cheese.
