Is powdered milk as nutritious as chilled milk?

Powdered milk is made through a spray drying process, which removes the water from milk. The nutrients remain the same in powdered milk as in chilled, fresh milk, just in a concentrated form.

Powdered milk is a convenient, more shelf stable alternative to chilled milk and can be used in a number of ways.

Cow’s milk powder is made by removing the water from fresh cow’s milk through a process called spray drying, which reduces the moisture level to just 3%. The moisture level is the only difference between fresh and powdered milk.

The nutrients remain the same after spray drying, however are much more concentrated in the powdered form when comparing weight for weight, thanks to the removal of moisture. Powdered milk can easily be reconstituted to fresh milk with the addition of water- follow the instructions on the back of the pack for best results.
