Is it better to buy branded or non-branded dairy products to support Aussie farmers?
By choosing Australian dairy products, preferably branded, you’re not only supporting farming families but entire dairy communities.

With the variety of milk and other dairy products available it's no wonder people are confused about which to buy and how to best support Australian dairy farmers.
The price a farmer gets for their milk is based on the fat and protein content – collectively called 'milk solids' – and the milk price established by the processor.
It is widely recognised that processor margins are better for branded product, compared to private label equivalents which in-turn, impacts the money flowing back into the supply chain.
Private label is the exclusive product made by and sold for that particular retail outlet or supermarket. Branded products are manufactured and then distributed to be sold at separate retailers.
When choosing dairy foods, keep in mind the varieties best suited to your nutritional needs, and look for the Australian Grown logo (see example below) on the back of the package to be sure the product is made from Australian milk. While branded milk returns more margin to the farmers, in general, to support Australian farmers, buy milk and buy lots of it!
